How to make Spotted Dick:
A very famous traditional British recipe, beloved of canteens and school dinners.





Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup suet
3 level tablespoons sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 cup currants
milk
(see measure conversions for more information)

Method

- Sieve the flour into a bowl.
- Add the other ingredients using enough milk to make a soft dough.
- Flour a damp cotton cloth.
- Make the dough into a roll and place in the cloth.
- Roll the cloth around it loosely and tie at both ends.
- Steam for 3 hours.
- Serve with custard.
