How to make Skirlie Mirlie:
A traditional Scottish dish.


1lb turnips, peeled, cooked and mashed
1lb potatoes, peeled, cooked and mashed
4 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons butter
freshly ground black pepper
chopped parsley or chives
triangles crispy fried bread
(see measure conversions for more information)


- Mash the hot turnips and potatoes together.
- Add the milk and butter.
- Whisk the ingredients together until smooth.
- Season well with salt and pepper.
- Put into a hot serving dish and serve sprinkled with herbs and garnished with the triangles of fried bread.
