Bosworth Jumbels from Leicestershire Recipe

This recipe is said to have been picked up on the battlefield of Bosworth, having been dropped by Richard III's cook.


  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 12 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large egg
(see measure conversions for more information on quantites)


  1. Beat the sugar and butter together well.
  2. Stir in the egg.
  3. Add flour and mix thoroughly.
  4. Shape pieces of the mixture into the form of an S and place on a hot greased tin.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven 150oc/325of/gas mark5 until brown.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 4 - 6 portions
