5 cups self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons dripping or butter
3 tablespoons caster/superfine sugar
3 tablespoons sultanas
1 egg
1/4 pint water
1/4 pint milk
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Stir in the sugar and fruit.
- Combine the milk and water and mix in the egg.
- Add to the dry ingredients.
- A soft dough should be achieved.
- Divide into eight.
- Form into flat cakes.
- Place on a greased tray and bake at 150 degrees Centigrade (see temperature conversions) for 30 minutes.

I baked your recipe thinking I was getting teacakes, the type you toast. However I got scones. Please sort yourselves out.

to glaze the tea cakes put amix of 50/50 sugar and water bring to the boil and brush on Be careful is as hot as boiling jam

I found that I couldn't get the glazed finish on the top, that you get in supermarket tea cakes.

Tea cakes are Spiced with mixed spices,in what proportion I am not sure,1/2 to 1 tsp I would guess.
