How to make vegetarian savory roly poly:
A really substantial vegetarian recipe which can be varied by experimenting with different vegetable fillings.


Suet crust pastry
raw grated carrot
raw grated parsnip
raw grated turnip
finely sliced raw potato
salt and black pepper
vegetable stock powder
(see measure conversions for more information)


- Roll out the pastry into an oblong shape.
- Layer the vegetables onto the pastry leaving a clear margin all around.
- Sprinkle each layer with some stock powder, salt and pepper.
- Roll up and seal the ends.
- Tie in a floured cloth and boil or steam for 2 1/2 hours.
- Serve with vegetarian gravy.
