How to make savory pudding:
This is a traditional savory pudding dating from a time when meat meat was an expensive commodity. Savory pudding would have been served either with meat and gravy to supplement the small amount of meat or on its own when no meat was available.


1/2 cup flour
4 tablespoons fine oatmeal
4 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups suet
3 large peeled boiled onions
1 egg
some milk
thyme and marjoram to taste
salt and pepper

- Mix all the dry ingredients together and add some thyme and marjoram, salt and pepper.
- Chop the onions and add the egg and a little milk to the dry ingredients and mix to a soft consistency.
- Turn into a well greased oven proof dish and bake until golden brown.
