1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons (2oz) butter
1/2 pint milk
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Stir over a low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Bring to the boil.
- Keep at a gentle boil until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and beat well, adding the vanilla extract.
- Pour into a well greased dish or tray.
- Mark into squares while still warm and allow to set.

i tried this but it will not set. It wouldn't thicken in the saucepan and so it is a liquid.
