How to make milk toffee:
An absolutely basic, simple toffee recipe. Ideal as a beginners recipe.


3/4 cup (6oz) sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons (2oz) butter
1/2 pint milk
(see measure conversions for more information)


- Put the sugar, butter and milk in a heavy bottomed saucepan.
- Stir over a low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Bring to the boil.
- Keep at a gentle boil until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and beat well, adding the vanilla extract.
- Pour into a well greased dish or tray.
- Mark into squares while still warm and allow to set.
