3/4 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons Demerara sugar
5 tablespoons butter
a little extra butter
1 large egg, well beaten
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Stew with the sugar until soft.
- Remove from the heat.
- Add the butter and the egg.
- Grease an ovenproof dish and put half of the breadcrumbs onto the base.
- Pour the apple mixture onto this and then cover the apples with the rest of the breadcrumbs.
- Dot over with small pieces of butter.
- Bake at 190 degrees Centigrade (see temperature conversions) for 30 minutes.

How to make Friar’s Omelette:
The use of the word omelette is misleading here because egg only plays a small part in this dish. Apples are the main ingredients and rather than being fried this is baked in the oven.Ingredients

Could you please tell me what Demerara sugar is? I'm from America and I am unfamiliar with some of your ingredients.
