1 egg
1/2 tablespoon sugar
just under 1/2 pint milk
whole nutmeg
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Beat the egg and sugar together.
- Heat the milk and pour it over the egg mix, stirring.
- Strain this into the pastry case and grate some nutmeg over it.
- Bake at 200 degrees centigrade (see temperature conversions) until the pastry is lightly cooked and then reduce the temperature to 170 degrees centigrade for about 25 minutes or until the custard is set.
- Serve cold.

How to make custard tart:
A favorite British dessert. This can also be made as small individual tarts.
Ingredients
enough shortcrust pastry to line a flan tin1 egg
1/2 tablespoon sugar

Method
- Line a deep, round, greased flan tin with the pastry.- Beat the egg and sugar together.
- Heat the milk and pour it over the egg mix, stirring.
- Strain this into the pastry case and grate some nutmeg over it.
- Bake at 200 degrees centigrade (see temperature conversions) until the pastry is lightly cooked and then reduce the temperature to 170 degrees centigrade for about 25 minutes or until the custard is set.
- Serve cold.
