How to make cherry buns:
Nice little cakes for teat-time or coffee breaks. Make a tin full and you won't have to buy any packaged cakes from the supermarket.


6 heaped tablespoons self-raising flour
2 tablespoons ground rice
4 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons caster/superfine sugar
2 tablespoons glace cherries (chopped)
1 egg
a little milk
a few glace cherries for decoration
(see measure conversions for more information)


- Rub the butter into the flour.
- Add the rice, sugar and cherries.
- Beat the eggs with a little milk and mix into the dry ingredients.
- Bake in a hot oven for 7-10 minutes in paper cases or patty-tins.
- When cool decorate each cake with half or quarter of a glace cherry.
