Buttered Rum Recipe

Buttered rum is a hot and spicy alcoholic beverage that is really soothing at the end of a cold and tiring winter's day.


  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 pint rum
  • 1 pint boiling water
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 nutmeg
  • powdered cinnamon
(see measure conversions for more information on quantites)


  1. Put butter, sugar and cinnamon into a bowl and pour the boiling water onto them.
  2. Add the rum.
  3. Float slices of lemon on top and grate the nutmeg over it.
  4. Serve hot.
