1 tightly packed cup uncooked coarsely minced ham
1 tablespoon white breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 egg
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Put into a 2 1/2 pint basin and press down.
- Cover with a piece of foil.
- Steam in a pan of water for 2 hours remembering to keep the water topped up as necessary.
- Remove from heat.
- Remove foil lid and put a saucer with a weight on it on top of the meat.
- Put into the refrigerator for about 5 hours.
- Turn the basin upside down onto a plate and remove beef roll.
- Serve with mustard, home made bread and butter and a green salad.

How to make beef roll:
This is a variation on the traditional meat loaf.
Ingredients
2 tightly packed cups topside of coarsely minced beef1 tightly packed cup uncooked coarsely minced ham
1 tablespoon white breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Method
- Put all the ingredients into a large bowl and beat well with a wooden spoon.- Put into a 2 1/2 pint basin and press down.
- Cover with a piece of foil.
- Steam in a pan of water for 2 hours remembering to keep the water topped up as necessary.
