2 1/2oz butter
1oz sugar
1/4oz ground almonds
good pinch of baking powder
2oz caster/superfine sugar
2oz ground almonds
1 egg white
drop of almond essence
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Work in the flour and almonds using your hands.
- Roll out the dough and cut into 2 inch rounds.
- Mix the caster sugar, ground almonds and almond essence.
- Add sufficient beaten egg white to make a paste.
- Form into small balls and place several on top of each of the rounds.
- Bake in a moderate oven 325oF/160oC/gas mark 3 till a pale biscuit colour about 15 – 20 minutes.

Hi Barbara we've posted your comment and hopefully you'll get some feedback. I'll have look for the recipes but I haven't heard of them.You could always go to the forum and post the recipe questions. you might get some help there.

I am enjoying your newsletter and i am going to try some of your recipes after my birthday in April. I can not believe it i turn 60 this year i do not know where the years have gone. I am wondering if you or any other people who send recipes to you can answer this question i once had a very old recipe it was called Boston Bun it was not made with yeast it was made with potato and sugar and this acted like yeast and it made to sandwich tin cakes and they were beautiful. Also i am wondering if you have heard of a reccipe called a Muffin Loaf it is similar it was made from rolled oats or porridge and when you put the cooked porridge and the sugar together it acted like yeast and you added different things to the recipe and you do not have to wait for them to rise. If you are able to help i would be very greatful. Yes i do live in Western Australia i live in Perth Western Ausstralia. Thank you for your wonderful recipes. Barbara (Barbie) Mackay
