Although all the ingredients in these beauty recipes are natural, remember that it is still possible to be allergic to anything applied to the skin. DO NOT USE ANYTHING NUT BASED ON YOUR SKIN IF YOU HAVE A NUT ALLERGY. To test other ingredients make up a very small amount of the recipe you intend to use. Wash and gently dry a small patch of skin inside your elbow. Apply a little of the mix to the skin and leave for 48 hours. If you experience any redness or swelling DO NOT USE THE BEAUTY RECIPE AT ALL.

Face packs or masks are useful for cleansing, soothing and reviving the skin. They can be bought in various forms but how much better to make your own from readily-available, natural ingredients. Mix and match fruits, flowers and oils to create a mask which is exactly right for your own skin.

Try applying face packs onto a layer of  fine gauze to make the process less messy. Cut a piece of gauze to the shape of your face, cutting out holes for eyes and mouth. Place over the face and apply the face pack on top. After 20 minutes simply peel off the gauze and pack together. Before trying the following recipes cleanse your face with your usual cleanser removing all traces of it with damp cottonwool.

Apricot Face Pack (Good for Dry Skin)


Ingredients

6 fresh apricots, stones removed
olive oil

Method

- Blitz the apricots in an electric blender.
- Mix to a paste with a little olive oil.
- Apply to the face.
- Relax for 20 minutes or so.
- Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Carrot Face Pack (Healing and Soothing)


Ingredients

1 large carrot, peeled and grated
1 egg yolk, beaten
olive oil

Method

- Mix all the ingredients together.
- Apply to the face.
- Relax for 20 minutes or so.
- Rinse off with lukewarm water.




Marigold and Carrot Face Pack (Healing and Soothing)


Ingredients

2 tablespoon marigold petals
2 tablespoons chamomile petals
4 tablespoons boiling water
1 tablespoon grated carrot
almond oil to mix

Method

- Pour the boiling water over the petals.
- Allow to stand for 5 minutes.
- Strain.
- Add the flowers to the carrot.
- Blend in a blender.
- Add a little almond oil.
- Blend again.
- Apply to the face.
- Relax for 20 minutes or so.
- Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Almond and Chamomile Face Pack (Calming and Soothing)


Ingredients

2 tablespoons finely ground almonds
2 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers, ground to a powder in a coffee grinder
aloe vera gel
a little beaten egg

Method

- Mix all the ingredients together.
- Use enough aloe vera gel and egg to make a thick paste.
- Apply to the face.
- Relax for 20 minutes or so.
- Rinse off with lukewarm water.
