Christmas is almost here and sometimes in spite of all the fun and party going it van be a very stressful time. The temptation to calm down with a glass of alcohol, a cigarette or too many chocolates is overwhelming. Luckily, Nature has provided more than a few herbs and spices which can help to soothe and lower high stress levels. Here are a couple of ideas with a Christmasy, spicy touch.

Christmas Spice and Hop Pillow

To lull you into a restful and calming sleep try making a Hop Pillow. Make it small to pop under your normal pillow or large enough to rest your head on.


2 cups hop flowers
1 tablespoon powdered cloves
1 tablespoon all spice
1 tablespoon cassia bark
1 tablespoon orris root powder
a few drops clove oil


- Mix all the ingredients together and sew into a small cotton pillowcase.
- A fancy outer case can be made or bought to cover the inner herb pillow.

De-stress at Christmas Massage Oil

A soothing massage will revitalise you after a hard day of Christmas shopping. This recipe is ideal.


1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
3 drops pine essential oil
1 drop frankincense oil
2 drops lavender essential oil


- Mix all the oils together well.
- Use the oil for a relaxing fragrant massage.
