Gardening > Broad or runner beans in cardboard tubes

Collect as many toilet tissue or kitchen paper tubes as you need. Cut the kitchen paper tubes in half as they are usually larger than toilet tissue tubes. Half fill each with potting compost and drop in your bean seed. Cover to the top of the tube with more compost. Stand them up in a suitable container and water daily. When the bean plants have come up to about 3 inches high they can be planted out still in the tubes (the cardboard will rot away naturally). Remove the bottom from 100g yogurt cartons and place one over each bean. These will protect the plants from slugs and snails.

I can now take the phone books out of my overflowing 2 shelves I keep my cookbooks in: then...
