Gardening > Encourage Wildlife into Your Garden
A great way to encourage wildlife into your garden is to construct a "Log Pile". It can transform an unused corner of the garden into a thriving habitat for local wildlife.
Put down a pile of logs (old tree stumps or untreated wood preferably) and lay a heap of leaves nearby. Alternatively you could make a raised bed edged with the wood and part fill it with well rotted garden compost or leaf mulch. Remember to leave gaps in the wood for small mammals, such as Hedgehogs, so that they can enter and exit the pile safely. The size of your pile or raised bed depends on the space available.
Plant the bed or pile with natural woodland plants such as Primrose, Lily of the Valley, Bluebell and Solomon's Seal. Animals which may be attracted include Hedgehogs, Frogs, Toads, Newts, Black beetles and Snails (this depends on your country of residence!)
