How to make Figgie Hobbin:
A plain pastry sweetened with raisins. In Cornwall raisins and currants were often referred to as figs, hence the name 'Figgie Hobbin'.


2 cups flour
1 tablespoon suet
1 tablespoon lard
1 teaspoon baking powder
"Figs" (raisins)
cold milk or water to mix.

- Rub the lard and suet into the flour and baking powder.
- Add the raisins.
- Mix to a stiff dough with a little milk or water.
- Roll out to a thickness of 1/2 inch and cut into 4 inch squares.
- Make a slash across the top of each with a knife and bake in a moderate oven for about 30 minutes.
