How to make Cornish treacle tart:
This old recipe gives no specific amounts for the ingredients. Simply use enough to fill your favorite pie dish.


shortcrust pastry
golden syrup
grated lemon rind
(see measure conversions for more information)


- Roll out the pastry.
- Cut out two rounds, one large enough to line a pie dish and one to make a lid.
- Sprinkle some breadcrumbs onto the pastry-lined pie dish.
- Pour on the golden syrup (do not fill too full).
- Sprinkle some grated lemon rind onto the treacle.
- Moisten the pastry edges with some water.
- Press the lid on.
- Bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes.
