1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
3 cups currants
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
1/2 pint stout (porter) warmed
(see measure conversions for more information)
- Remove from heat.
- Add the sugar, porter and well beaten eggs.
- Add the flour.
- Add the spice and bicarbonate.
- Mix very well for about 10 minutes.
- Bake in two or three small tins in a very moderate oven for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
