The traditional dessert for the Christmas Meal. The concept of the Christmas Pudding harks back to the ancient use of spices and dried fruits in meat dishes, the suet being the vestiges of the meat content. There are links below to other recipes you may want to try.

  • 1 1/2 lbs flour
  • 1lb currants
  • 2 tablespoons treacle
  • 6oz vegetarian suet (or alternative)
  • 8oz sugar
  • 1lb raisins
  • 4oz peel
  • water or beer
(see measure conversions for more information on quantites)


  1. Mix all the ingredients together.
  2. Use water or beer to bind.
  3. Boil for 4-6 hours.
  4. Serve with caster sugar, brandy butter, Cumberland rum butter or cream (clotted or double).

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 480 minutes

Yield: 4 - 6 portions
